NOTES ON AGENDA FOR TWENTY-NINTH MEETING OF THE ANGLO-NORWEGIAN COLLABORATION COMMITTEE ON FRIDAY, 14 APRIL, 1944.

Lt.Cmdr.G.U.Vetlesen, U.S.N.R. is taking Major Cromwell's place as one of the three SOE/SO members.

1. Points arising out of the Minutes of the Twenty-eighth Meeting.
(N.B. the following references are to the Minutes of the twenty-eighth meeting.)
1.(a). Equipment for N.I.C.(1). I shall produce a statement of the present position.
1.(b). Directives for Planning of Future Activities in Norway. AD/E may care tos say something in general Forme on this point, particularly on the subject of the intimation received from S.H.A.E.F. that possible future plans with reference to Norway should not be rendered ineffective through any precipitate action.

2.(b). Coup de Main parties. The party proceeding from Sweden to complete the destruction of the locomotives on the Orkla-Thamshavn Railway have been
hung up by Swedish authorities on the frontier.

ST may have something to say in regard to Sulitjelma. The only practical way of introducing a party now is in my opinion likely to endanger ANTRUM, and possibly also LARK and FALCON, without any very definite proof of the present value of the target. I feel that this risk should not be taken.

SAUDA. The ALBATROSS (ARQUEBUS) party have sailed and the reconnaissance of the target has been included in their operation instructions.

1.(a).General Hansteen!s visit to S.T.S.26 and to Shetland Base.
It will only be necessary to record the General's appreciation of the administration, atmosphere and co-operation at both S.T.S.26 and Scalloway.

1.(b).It is difficult to obtain information as to the exact results of Colonel Balchen's plan (Project X.) It is believed that one westward flight has been made.

2. SU might be invited to give the Committee an account of his visit to Sweden.

3. Present position in the Shetlands, The usual attack of spring fever has occurred. in this case the crewmen have demanded a bonus at the rate of £1. a day when at sea. The matter has been considered by F.0.IV in conjunction with us, and the decision conveyed to the ratings of N.N.I.U. that the application cannot be entertained.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

MINUTES OF THE TWENTY-NINTH MEETING OF THE ANGLO-NORWEGIAN COLLABORATION COMMITTEE HELD ON FRIDAY, 14th April, 1944.

AD/E welcomed Lt.Cdr.Vetlesen, who has succeeded Major Cromwell as one of the three SOE/SO members
1. Points arising out of the Minutes of the Twenty-eighth Meeting;
(a) General Hansteen!s Visit to S.T.S.26 and Shetland Base.

ST reported om the favourable impression gained by General Hansteen on his visit to S.T.S.26 and the Shetland base.
(b) Col.Balchen's Plan for Transportation of Norwegian Refugees from Sweden to U.K. In response to a question from D/S, SB stated that he had no information on the subject apart from the fact that the Norwegian Government had been responsible for the selection of passengers to be brought across.

2. Report from SU Regarding his Visit to Sweden
SU reported on his conference with Home Fronti representatives. A written report on this conference has now been made available to members of the Comittee.

Among other things SU drew the attention of the Committe to the fact that a certain section of the Home Front désired to participate more actively in the war effort. He suggested that they should be provided with a list of targets 3. Present Position in the Shetlandssuitable for insaississable sabotage, in order to make them feel that they were pulling their weight. ST suggested in particular attacks against road transport.

DS/US stresssd the importance of the psychological effect on the Home Front of activities of this kind.
AD/E considered that too much premature action might prejudice efficient activity at a later and more appropriate moment, but asked taat a suitable list of targets of this kind be made out for detailed examination.
SB agreed that such sabotage should be carried out against essentially important targets, but not merely for the sake of
bolstering up morale.

In suming up the discussion, AD/E asked that lists of "Do's and "Dont's" should be prepared.

3. Present Position in the Shetlands
D/S reported on the present situation, and referred to the recent demand made by the men. This was being handled by SU with Admiral Danielsen.

4. Any other business
(a) D/S reported on recent alr operations.
(b) D/S reported on resent trips sailed by sub-Chasers.
(c) SU gave an account of the set-up of the Norwegian Police Force in Sweden.
D/S stated that permission had been obtained from the (Foreign Offitce for eleven SOE W/T to be made over for the use of the Police Companies.
