Halifax III 2 P/Q MZ968 on operation TAIL III. 592835N-115300E.Operation was not completed owing to incorrect receptionm though DZ identified. Load 13 containers and 3 packages. Heavcy flak reported 906N-1052E 5 miles from A/C. No searchlights seen. No defects in A/C. Town of ORJE recognized, on narrowe part of 2 lakes DZ is 4 miles due west of ORJE

Reception arrangement C/N. Signal given twice, but quite unreadable.

North sea cloudey, 3/10 stratus wind variable light-
Norway Skagerak 3/10 Stratus cum at 3800', over land 8-10/10 at 1200', Vis 2-3 miles.
On approaching DZ one white steady light seen on hill. On second run in another steady light seen and a further white light flshed twice. On 3 circuit no lights seen. On 4th run cloed prevented further action. Pilot was ready to drop on second run in but lichts downed, reception generally unrecogniceable as much, but DZ defeinately found.

2. Captains report:

Stirling IV LK190 V8-J on operation TAIL III to Norway. Carrying 18 containers and 3 packages. Weatherr fair but clody most of route, base 2-300 '. Wintry showers over southern Norway with low cloud obscuring the DZ. Unsucessful trip. Enemy opposition negligible.

2. Captains report:

Halifax III "E" NA658 took off in operation TAIL III, 592835N-113300E. Unsuccessful. DZ located on DR. 10/10 cloud over DZ area. Light flak in DZ area. REception arangement. C-type of lights, "N".

N Coast 22:42 hrs 5903N-1055E.

DZ to same position on Norwegian coast 23:23 hrs - toEnglish coast as briefed 3000'- 02:47 hrs.

Over North Sea cloud 8-10/10-500', Wind 285/16. Vis good beløow cloud. Over Norway llow cloud (Tops 1000', 10/10) after crossing coast. DZ area cloud 10/10 1000', wind 027/16.

After crossing Norwegian coast - 10/10 cloud over enbtire area. DZ unindetified, but possible fixed. A/C spent approx. 40 mins over DZ, approaching area 3 times. Flying bomb seen 20:10 hrs 5625N-0300E. 500', bomb at 1500'.

Light flak ( 20 min in all cases) seen nearly all way from coast to DZ, particullary in position 5918N-1113E. 22:43 hres. A/C at 1500'

; this flak directed at A/C from about 1/2 mile to port, course 044. On return journey this flak met in same position. FLak acurate. A/C was fired upon the light flak fairly continousley from Norwegian Coast to within 8 miles of DZ on booth journeys.
