Report: 463_15.09.44
15000-10000 ft. 12:55 – 13:00 hrs DBST Take off went smoothly. And all a/c set course behind leader dead on time. Dist to target was very acoourate, but rip was hindered by battery of med. Flak opening up approx. 69.30-22.10. First impressions were that this battery warned taarget of our approach, and the smokescreen was seen to be in operation for 5 mins before target was reached. However, target wad as certained visually to be on north side of fiord from direction of our approach. Theis was conformed by leader. The bombing of the leader and the following two a/c appeared to be very accurate, and an explosion followed some seconds later. This was backed up by black smoke which later was inclined to billow. The JW a/c then came in, but by this time smokescreen was very effective, The JW bombs vieved from pilot’s seat fell in centre of smokescreen. We continued circels, but no more explosion were seen. Flak from the defence positions, cruicers and destroyers was moderate but inaccurate. No a/c seen to be damaged. We set course for posn 70.00-17.00 getting don to sea level as soon as land were cleared. Weather on return trip was very poor. Landfall made in vinvinity of Aberdeen. Landed base 22:55 hrs
GENERAL REMARKS: Nav. Skills appailing weather conditions was responsible for greater percentage of a/c landining at YAGODNIK.
