"The crew departed RAF Wethersfild at 22:40 hours and set off over the North Sea to a point south of in the Skagerak. The Skagerak is a strait running between the Jutland peninsula of Denmark, the south coast of Norway and the west coast of Sweden, connecting the North Sea and the Kattegat sea. It would be a femiliar route to the squadron over the coming months. Skirting the rugged eastern Norwegian coastline, the crew headed for their DZ at 59.53.40N/10.08.40E, an isolated area of forest. They arrived over a fog-covered region of hills at 02:32 hours. Unfortunaltely, no reception was observed. Not wishing to outstay their welcome, S/Ldl Dale turned for a long flight home. A tired crew landed back at RAF Wethersfiels at 07:00 hours, they have been airborne for 8 hours and 20 minutes. Squadron leader Dale praised the splendid work of his Navigator, F/Sgt Charles Watkin. He remarked, "A very commendable job of navigation especially under the conditions as radared became u/s soon after takeoff. The trip was done on drift and correct target area was found."
