1. Captains report:
Halifax "V" took off on operation SADDLE 2 captained by F/O G KIDD. Target Norway. Carrying containers. Operation not successful, owing to no reception. Landed base at 05:18 hrs.
DR run made from southern end of FYRESDAL Lake. Pinpoint definitely recognised but no reception seen. Lakes becoming visible as ice begins to crack. Villages of Joreniand and GJEVEDAL pinpointed in deep valley.
These villages were lit up. Load returned to base. These crews first experience of a Norvegran Operation» but in perfect visibility they appear to have been quite happy about all their pinpoints and are completely confidant that it was a
case of no reception.

Field report:
"E"; who is responsible for Saddle II dropping place reports that they have been on the place at the given map reference all the time. Owing to the short time left and in order not to lose the plane I will also out put a reception
committee at SADDLE IV dropping-place when message is being sent out over BBC. This as a closer investigation in Gjevdal will take too long. We will flash
the same signals as for Saddle II dropping place.
REMARKS:No definite information received yet. Later signal from field claims they heard aircraft from 20 kms to North. This pinpoint will not be used unless ****, too difficult to find.
