1. Captains report:
Stirling aircraft "P" took off on operation THRUSH RED I captained by F/Lt Symmons. DZ: 59.23.50N-11.02.40E. Not reached, due to low cloud & icing conditions. 18C+3P brought back.
Turned back at 58.10 N-08.40 E. (SE Lillesand) due to adverse weather condition. Over sea low broken cloud 8/10th down to 400 ' Very heavy rain. Icing conditions, Wind 006/16, 400', 183/19 400'.
2. Captains report:
DZ= 59.23.50N-11.02.40E. THRUSH RED 2,
Load 13 containers and 3 packages. Captain returned after 1:25 flying A/C U/S.. (DR unit & George U/S) Taking off again he reached p osition 5851N-1033E then turned back owing to low cloud 500' same 1500' & and very bad mist. Load RTB. ROute: Base - 5740N-0730E-21:35 5257N-0044E 1000'- 5912N-1111E-DR &RSR E.coast: 03:52 5730N-0147W 1000'.
Vis. 10/10 low stratus. base 1000', Vis 1/2 mile.
Aircraft U "F" returned to base after first take off; DR unit and "George" u/s. Also two instrument on engeneers panel u/s. Aricraft replaced by U "G". Signal to RTB received, cancelling diversion received 0210 hrs, but aircraft was then closer to Lossimouth than base so leg was continuet, aircraft landing at Lossimouth.
